1.Gravity separation method. Ittakes advantage of the density difference between ilmenite and gangue minerals for separation. Ilmenite has a relatively high density, generally ranging from 4.7 to 5.0 g/cm³, while gangue minerals have a relatively lower density. Commonly used equipment for gravity separation includes shaking tables and spiral chutes. Through the scouring and vibration of water flow, minerals of different densities stratify during movement, thus achieving the initial enrichment of ilmenite.

2.Magnetic separation method. Ilmenite has weak magnetic properties and can be separated from non-magnetic minerals using magnetic separation equipment. Depending on the strength of the magnetic field,it can be divided into weak magnetic separation and strong magnetic separation. Commonly used equipment includes permanent magnetic separators and vertical ring pulsating high gradient magnetic separators. Weak magnetic separation is mainly used to remove strongly magnetic minerals such as magnetite from the ore, and strong magnetic separation is used to recover ilmenite. Magnetic separation is one of the commonly used methods in ilmenite beneficiation, which can effectively enrich ilmenite and improve the grade of concentrate.

3.Flotation method.By taking advantage of the differences in the physical and chemical properties of the mineral surfaces, flotation reagents are added to make the surface of ilmenite hydrophobic, allowing it to attach to air bubbles and float, thereby separating it from gangue minerals. Flotation is often used to process fine-grained ilmenite and can yield high-grade titanium concentrate.
