Innovative Research and Application of Super-large SLon Vertical Ring Pulsating High-gradient Magnetic Separator

In recent years, the R&D team of SLon Magnetic Separator Co., Ltd. has fully summarized technical experience accumulated from SLon-2500, SLon-3000 and SLon-4000. Following the R&D route of “large-scale design – industrial verification – iterative optimization”, the team successively launched super-large magnetic separators SLon-5000, SLon-6500 and SLon-8000.

Key technical parameters are listed in Table 1.

In 2015, the world’s first super-large SLon-5000 VPHGMS was developed. Adopting optimized magnetic circuit and rotating ring structure, it delivers dry ore throughput of 420–700 t/h with unit power consumption of merely 0.27 kWh per ton of ore. After 8 years of continuous industrial testing, the equipment was officially put into service at a vanadium-titanium magnetite mine project in Panzhihua in 2023.

In 2024, the SLon-6500 VPHGMS rolled off the production line. Its dry ore throughput increased to 1000–1400 t/h, and unit energy consumption dropped to 0.19 kWh/t. Equipped with modular magnetic yoke and intelligent control system, the equipment boasts remarkable improvements in transportation convenience and operational stability.

In 2025, the SLon-8000 VPHGMS representing the top-tier industry technology was completed. Integrated with split magnetic yoke, intelligent variable frequency drive and multiple proprietary innovations, it achieves a maximum dry ore throughput of 2,500 t/h, 2.6 times higher than SLon-5000. Its specific energy consumption is as low as 0.12 kWh/t, a 78.6% reduction compared with SLon-3000 (0.56 kWh/t). This record-setting performance redefines the upper limit of throughput and energy efficiency for equivalent magnetic separation equipment. The iterative upgrade of this super-large product line marks a leap-forward breakthrough in SLon’s large-scale magnetic separation technology.

Against the backdrop of strong market demand for ultra-large, intelligent mineral processing equipment, SLon VPHGMS have made critical technical advances in large-scale structural design, coarse particle pre-separation and high field intensity optimization. The newly developed super-large series (SLon-5000, SLon-6500, SLon-8000) pushes single machine processing capacity to 2,500 t/h, with unit energy consumption minimized to 0.12 kWh/t. Industrial operation data proves that SLon-5000 can reach 12% concentrate grade in vanadium-titanium magnetite tailings recovery, saving 3 million kWh of electric power annually. This paper elaborates systematically the complete development process of ultra-large SLon VPHGMS.
